Richard’s Case Study

Richard’s dream electric wheelchair

Richard has always loved tractors, especially John Deere. He’s often found in the cab of his Dad’s tractor, helping around the farm and learning how to operate the equipment.

His new Series 5 electric wheelchair now gives him even more independence, letting him do more and go further.

After a serious childhood accident, Richard and his family wanted to find a powerchair that would suit his environment, daily routines and, of course, his personality.

Designed Around His Personality

The family first discovered the Series 5 at Rehacare, one of the world’s largest trade fairs for rehabilitation and care, held in Dusseldorf. Richard and his family tested out a wide range of electric wheelchair options, but the Series 5 quickly stood out. They loved the product, however it was the flexibility and personal approach from the Freedom One Life team that really cemented their decision to choose the Series 5.

The team spent time explaining the product, answering questions and then let Richard test it out, even taking a trip outside the event halls to check it could fit into the family car. The Series 5 was designed by a powerchair user, so it works for everyday life, and this proved it could fit into a part of Richard’s that was important for his independence.

Once Richard and his family were home, they had another test drive so he could see how it would work day to day, in his own environment. The team from Reha-Aktiv 2000, Richard’s local Freedom One Life distributor in Germany, visited the farm with a Series 5 and were on hand to help through the entire process.

Customisation

When the team learned about Richard’s passion for John Deere, they were excited to create something custom to suit his personality. His Series 5 colour choice was inspired by his Dad’s tractor, transforming it into something that reflects who he is. The bold colours make it instantly recognisable and he turns heads wherever he goes. Rather than looking clinical, it feels powerful, distinctive and completely his own.

An electric wheelchair built for the outdoors

Richard needed a powerchair that not only looked good, but one that would also perform wherever he needed to go.

With a real-world range of up to 40 km on a single charge, it supports his long days outdoors without needing to worry about battery life. Two maintenance-free, 660 watt motors provide good power and reliability, allowing Richard to tackle muddy tracks, gravel paths and uneven terrain with confidence. A top speed of up to 12 km/h also means he can keep pace with his work, family and friends.

Comfort and control

The Series 5 offers a range of seating options, including electric tilt and height adjustment, enabling easy repositioning throughout the day – one of the great features that helps Richard to transfer into his Dad’s tractor cab. Padded armrests and supportive seating enhance comfort, and the weatherproof touchscreen control panel allows customised driving profiles, so handling can be adapted depending on terrain, whether smooth pavement or bumpy farmland.

More than a powerchair

Richard recently decided to upgrade his Series 5 by adding a trailer. This practical accessory now allows him to transport wood for the family’s stove.

Richard is constantly on the move and leads a busy life. You’ll find him helping in the forest, taking part in community activities or heading out on family trips. The Series 5 supports his lifestyle by giving him long-range performance, hybrid terrain capability and customised comfort.
